Here are some places you’d be remiss not to hit up this summer.
It’s a relatively under-the-radar option for wine fans and seafood lovers…not to mention people who like nature.
One of Croatia’s largest islands also happens to be super busy in prime summer months. And there’s good reason why: It’s landscaped is varied, the beaches are pristine and the towns are full of activities.
It’s the sunniest of all the islands and also one of the most luxurious (think super yachts and high-end hotels). It’s also drop-dead gorgeous. So just go be with all the crowds. There’s a reason they’re there.
The city has immense history, great food and beautiful scenery. What’s not to love?
Just north of Dubrovnik sits the delightful gardens of Trsteno. Make a day trip out of it.
Plitvice Lakes National Park
Sixteen lakes make up this stunning park in the middle of the country. Beware:swimming in these insanely beautiful waters is not allowed.
This is THE Istrian coastal fishing town you simply can’t miss.
Zlatni Rat Beach
People used to skip this Roman-era city and that’s a shame (it is a great jumping off point for Adriatic island hoppers). There’s great architecture, a few interesting monuments and a pedestrian-only Old Town.
There’s a vibrant art scene in this inland city, but don’t be fooled: there are pubs and outdoor activities to take part in, too.
It was here, on this heavily-forested island, that Odysseus supposedly lived for seven years. Hit up Mljet National Park.
